Elections in Gagauzia will take place on July 29

The elections for the People’s Assembly of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia will be held on July 29, the Assembly’s head Ana Harlamenko confirmed for Info-Prim Neo. The Central Election Commission of Gagauzia was constituted on May 24. Six of the nine members of the Commission were selected. Three of them represent the People’s Assembly, two the courts of law, while one the Executive Committee of Gagauzia. Ana Harlamenko said that several attempts had been made to set the election date and form the Election Commission, but the supporters of the local Governor put up opposition. The previous legislative elections in Gagauzia took place in 2008. The People’s Assembly has a four-year mandate.
