Employee of Leova Prosecutor’s Office arrested for traffic of influence

A man working as a driver at the Leova Prosecutor’s Office was arrested by anticorruption prosecutors on traffic of influence charges. He was placed under arrest for 72 hours initially, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the 61-year-old man asked for €1,000 from a person caught driving under the influence of alcohol. This denounced him to the police.

The denouncer said the man asked and received €1,000 for influencing a prosecutor of the Leova Prosecutor’s Office to drop the charges against him.

The man faces up to six years in jail or a fine of at most 4,000 conventional units, which is equal to 200,000 lei.
