Trade unionists of the Balti oil plant “Floare Soarelui” intend to stage a protest on June 14. The employees of the largest oil producer of the country will take to the streets to defend their rights. If they are not heard by the company’s administration, they threaten to stop the production process, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the National Confederation of Trade Unions.
The employees haven’t received the salaries for the last two months and their minimum pay wasn’t increased as the administration promised. A part of the salary earners were forced to go on leave paid out of their own pocket. They are concerned that their social-economic rights are not guaranteed.
“We can no longer endure such a situation. The people do not have on what to buy bread. We will mount protests and demand that the company’s administration respect employees’ rights,” said Claudia Sergheieva, trade union leader at SA “Floare Soarelui”.
Contacted by IPN, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov said the authorities cannot become involved in the work of a private company, but the administration of SA “Floare Soarelui” is not of good faith if it does not observe employees’ rights. He specified that the Balti oil plant has a monopoly on the oil market of Moldova.
SA “Floare Soarelui” has produced vegetal oil since 1922. More than 650 persons work at this plant that processes about 300,000 tonnes of raw material and makes 50,000 tonnes of refined and packed oil a year.
