Three employees of Penitentiary No.13 of Chisinau were convicted of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment against two detainees. The prosecution proved the guilt of the three after the Chisinau Military Court a year ago acquitted these on all counts, IPN reports.

The convicts include the head of the security service and two officers of the regime and supervision service of the penitentiary. The prosecutors proved that in August 2013, the employees of Penitentiary No. 13 tortured two prisoners of the jail, kicking, punching and heating them with rubber cudgels for alleged disobedience. As a result, the detainees suffered injuries all over the body. The video cameras set up inside the prison recorded the moment when violence was used.

The head of the security service was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, while the other two employees to three years in jail each. All the three were banned from working in the penitentiary system for five years. The Appeals Court’s decision is definitive, but can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.
