The Ministry of the Environment of Moldova refuted the Transnistrian press reports that the water in the Nistru River contains sewage and waste coming from Bender town, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The last time the Nistru water was examined at the end of July and the water wasn’t polluted then. The Nistru River is the most important source of water and a possible leakage of waste cannot be omitted. We would have made an announcement immediately. If a leakage happened in Bender, the quality of water in Chisinau wouldn’t be affected as the pumping station in Vadul lui Voda, which supplies the capital city with water, is situated northward Bender and the water cannot be infected from that region,” said Alexandru Trubca, senior consultant of the Ministry’s PR Service.
According to the Transnistrian website RIA Dnestr, sewage leaked into the Nistru from Bender, but the local authorities hid the information. It said residents of Tiraspol who rested on beaches noticed that the water was sticky.
