Environmental inspectors identified two cases of wood theft in Cărbuna village and in Călărași city, following checks carried out the previous evening. According to the Ministry of Environment, the inspections conducted in forestry units continue in a move to prevent noncompliant logging of timber, IPN reports.
In both cases, workers of the two forestry companies are involved. The persons will be suspended from office. The necessary additional measures will be decided as a result of investigations. “The frauds were discovered thanks to the complaints received from citizens, demonstrating the importance of community involvement. We encourage such actions from society because forests are a common good and we must protect them together,” reads a press release from the Ministry.
On Monday, searches were carried out at four employees of the Orhei state-owned forestry company in a case of timber appropriation. As a result, two persons were detained.
