Epidemiological situation in Moldova discussed by government officials

A number of 311 cases of flu have been reported in Moldova so far, with 271 persons being hospitalized. The authorities assure that all the medical institutions are provided with the drugs needed for treating acute respiratory infections. The issue was discussed in a meeting convened by the Premier following an increase in the number of acute respiratory infections, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the officials in charge presented information about the state of the patients who got flu, the treatment conditions, the protection and monitoring measures taken with the aim of preventing the spread of the disease, mainly in schools and nurseries. Deputy Minister of Health Aliona Serbulenko said the nurseries and schools possess medical devices for examining the children and students before classes and for providing medical assistance when necessary.

The meeting discussed the possible solutions for overcoming the critical situation as regards the infection with flu. Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who chaired the meeting, said that immediate measures should be taken to prevent a serious epidemic of acute respiratory infections and instructed the responsible institutions to make sure that the necessary treatment and immunization preparations are available and to inform the population about the measures that can be taken to prevent flu.

According to the National Public Health Center, the epidemical ceiling for acute respiratory infections was exceeded. There were recorded over 12,000 cases of such infections. Five persons died because of flu-related complications.
