The members of the commissions for the admission, assessment and discipline of the professions related to justice will receive equal remuneration set by law. The members of these commissions will receive an allowance equal to a tenth of the average monthly salary forecast for the current year. A draft law providing for this was given a first reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

The money will be provided by the Ministry of Justice, for no more than three meetings per month. For this year, the remunerated is estimated to be 1,300 lei per meeting.

The bill was drafted by the Ministry of Justice and, according to the informative note, it is aimed at reducing the risk factors of corruption within the professional commissions. Also, due to the lack of remuneration, the professionals were hesitant to apply for posts of member of the admission, evaluation and discipline commissions, thus delaying the creation of these commissions. Currently, only in the case of notaries, judicial experts and interpreters, it is stipulated through special laws that particular members can be remunerated.

The draft law also contains provisions for the unification of the rules for the issuance of documents confirming the status of freelancer by setting similar deadlines for requesting and issuing these documents. Also, a commission of 450 lei will be charged for the services provided by the Ministry of Justice. The institution will check how the conditions for taking up professions related to justice are fulfilled.

For the second reading, the MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Artemie Cătănoi proposed an amendment that aims to further elucidate legal aspects such as the status of the Lawyers’ Union, the obligation for lawyers to register their form of organization, as well as the legal effects regarding the status of the lawyer’s office/association in case of cessation of legal practice.
