An inspector of the escort service of the Floresti Police Inspectorate is accused of passive corruption. He is suspected of taking money and mobile phones from the relative of a detainee and of transmitting them to the prisoner in exchange for 200 lei and a mobile phone, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the inspector was arrested immediately after he received the next batch that he was to pass on to the detainee for a recompense of 200 lei. It included 500 lei, 10 packs of cigarettes, two bottles of vodka and other banned objects.
After charging the policeman, the Nord Service of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office asked that the inspector be suspended from his post, but the request was rejected.
The police officer faces a fine of 20,000 to 40,000 lei and will be banned from holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of up to five years.
