EU to assist Moldovan government with compensations after rise in energy prices

Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel, have signed today an annex to the financing agreement for the social assistance reform, under which 2.4 million euros will be offered by the UK Department for International Development so that the Moldovan Government can cover the difference in energy utility rates, which were raised on January 19. Vlad Filat thanked the EU Delegation for the offered support, which will help to pay compensations to 260,000 persons on low incomes. The compensations of 130 lei will be paid to cover expenses in the current cold season. Dirk Schuebel promised the funds will be released shortly.
