The National Bank of Moldova is to blame for the large theft committed at Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank, unaffiliated MP Eugen Carpov, former Deputy Prime Minister in the Leanca Government and a member of the initiative group for creating the European People’s Party of Moldova, said in the talk show “Public eye” on Noroc TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Carpov, namely the central bank is responsible for what happened. “Following the examination of the report presented by the parliamentary commission of inquiry into that theft, it was decided to dismiss vice governor of the National Bank of Moldova Ema Tabarta as well as Artur Gherman, who has nothing to do with the banking system. The National Bank is the only institution that must monitor the banking system,” he stated.

Asked about the signing by Iurie Leanca of a secret decision concerning the loan that the National Bank provided to Banca de Economii, Carpov said this decision was taken by the votes of all the ministers in a move to avoid the collapse of the banking system. “I personally didn’t take part in the vote because I was then suspended from post for the period of the election campaign. The Government took out this loan at the request of the central bank. The Cabinet voted in order to overcome the situation and help the National Bank remain on the floating line,” he said.

In the same program, Carpov said that the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Party of Moldova - Iurie Leanca” will soon make public the name of its candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau. “On Wednesday you will find out the name. I can tell you only that this is a well-trained person who looks well and is a sportsperson,” he stated.
