The European integration is not only a diplomatic action and a foreign policy objective. It is rather an internal policy objective that should be achieved in concert by the central and local authorities and whole society, MP Igor Corman said in the regional public consultations held in Soroca, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the legislative body, the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration continues to organize regional public consultations themed “Views on the European integration priorities and crossborder cooperation” that are aimed at involving the local authorities and civil society in decision making. The consultations in Soroca involved the commission’s chairman Igor Corman and commission members Valeriu Ghiletski and Iurie Chiorescu. The local public authorities were represented by the deputy head of the Soroca District Council Vladimir Nicuta. The lawmakers spoke about the European integration priorities and accomplishments made, especially in implementing the action plan on visa liberalization and in the negotiations on the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU. The representatives of the local public authorities presented the crossborder cooperation projects implemented in the Siret-Prut-Nistru Euroregion, of which the Soroca District Council forms part, and the new projects eligible until 2013. Another subject discussed was the cooperation in the Nistru Euroregion and the partnership between Soroca and Ukraine’s Vinitsa. The consultations held in Soroca are the third of the kind. The first consultations were staged in Hancesti in December 2011 and in Nisporeni this February. Similar events will be organized throughout the year in other districts of the country. The regional public consultations are mounted in partnership with the Moldovan-German Forum and the support of the UNDP “Support to Parliamentary Developing in Moldova” Project.
