The official opening of the European Kickboxing Championship took place at the Sport Complex “Alexia” in Chisinau on November 12, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prime Minister Vlad Filat attended the ceremony. He praised the National Kickboxing Federation for its efforts to organize the competition. “Such sports events promote Moldova's image,” the Premier said.
Among other persons attending were the president of the National Olympic Committee Nicolae Juravski, the president of the World Professional Kickboxing Association George Thoktaridis (WPKA) and WPKA secretary general Abdul Rahman El-Rayess.
According to Tudor Gorea, the president of the Moldovan Oriental-Kickboxing Federation, the number of competitors is lower owing to the pandemic flu and to the world financial crisis. Initially, about 400 athletes from 25 countries confirmed that they will be participating.
The European Kickboxing Championship will end on November 14 with a K-1 gala. The best sportspersons who competed in the continental tournament will participate in it. In the final gala, there will be shown 10 extraordinary battles.
The famous Russian kickboxer Alexandru Emelianenko will be the guest of honor.
