The Party of Socialists (PSRM) will mount a march and a demonstration in Chisinau to mark the International Workers’ Day on May 1. The National Confederations of Trade Unions of Moldova will celebrate this day only at the local level.

The PSRM’s secretary for ideology Ion Ceban has told IPN that the column of marchers at 10am will set off from the Circus and will move towards the National Opera House “Maria Bieșu” where a demonstration will be staged at about 11am.

Contacted by IPN for details, vice president of the National Confederations of Trade Unions Petru Chiriac said May 1 will be celebrated by events organized by sector trade unions. At the local level, there will be held conferences, roundtable meetings and other activities. The Confederation plans to stage a large-scale event in June, when the Trade Unionists’ Day is marked.

The International Workers’ Day has been celebrated since 1889 in most of the countries. In Moldova, May 1 is a nonworking day.
