The former acting prosecutor general Andrei Pantea was placed under arrest for 72 hours on charges of abuse of power. Maria Vieru, press officer of the Prosecutor General’s Office, has told IPN that it is about the transfer of the case of Karamalak to Russia while Pantea held the post of prosecutor general on an interim basis, IPN reports.
Earlier, the press reported that Andrei Pantea helped the investigation bodies of Russia to drop the case of thief in law Grigore Karamalak, alias “Bulgaru”. The charges against this were dropped in December 2015, after a year of the transfer of the case to Moscow.
Andrei Pantea, ex-first deputy prosecutor general, left the system after the Superior Council of Prosecutors accepted his resignation in September 2015. This didn’t indicate the reason for the leaving in his application.
