Ex-mayor of Drochia tried on three counts

The former mayor of Drochia is tried in three cases that are examined by the district court. He is accused of abuse of power, use of false official documents and instigation of falsification of public documents, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man, while serving as mayor, leased out 67 hectares of land to several persons without the decisions of the Drochia Town Council and without holding a public tender contest, in April 2009 and February 2010. The damage caused to the budget of the Drochia mayor’s office was assessed at about 99,000 lei lei. In a hearing on the abuse of power case, the ex-mayor presented a false certificate as a proof. Thus, the prosecutors accused him also of using false official documents and of instigation of falsification of public documents. The Nord Service of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office informed that the functionary of the Drochia mayor’s office, who falsified the certificate at the former mayor’s request, was also brought to trial. The functionary served as secretary of the Drochia Town Council and is accused of falsifying public documents.
