Former MP Iurie Bolboceanu was sentenced to 14 years behind bars for treason. The sentence was pronounced by the Rascani branch of the Court of Chisinau and can be challenged in the Appeals Court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, Iurie Bolboceanu, being recruited by officers of the Main Information Division of the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense, during October 5, 2016 and March 17, 2017, collected and transmitted information of national interest that can be used to Moldova’s detriment.
The furnished information contained concrete anticipative data about the strategies and tactics of national legislative reforms of major importance, accumulated from political decision makers, personal data and vulnerabilities of senior state officials, promoters of political reforms. Also, the information referred to the tactical evolution of the measures taken to implement the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU and detailed data about the intentions and legislative pans of the ruling parliamentary groups, based on information collected from inside political parties.
