Ex-MP Ivan Calin passed away

Former lawmaker Ivan Calin, a member of the Communist Party, departed this life at the age of 76, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the PCRM. “Mister Calin will definitely remain in the memory of the Moldovan people as one of the most remarkable persons in the country’s history. The multiple state awards are a proof of his special merits,” reads the communiqué. Ivan Calin was born on March 10, 1935 in Plopi village of Rybnitsa district. He graduated from the Chisinau School of Winegrowing and Winemaking, the Agricultural Institute of Chisinau, the Higher Party School of Moscow and completed courses at the Moscow Diplomatic Academy. Ivan Calin served as secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldova (1976-1980), chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (1980-1985), deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (1980-1985), chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (1985-1990), minister-consultant of the Embassy of the USSR in Romania (1990-1995), a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (1967-1990), a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (1980-1992), a member of the Parliament of Moldova (1998-2010).
