A former statesman who works as a lawyer will appear before judges for asking and taking €95,000 bribe from two clients for influencing persons holding responsible posts to take particular decisions. The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases completed the investigating and sent the case to court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the investigation in one of the criminal cases was started this May. It was established that the lawyer, asserting that he has influence on persons holding important posts, promised he will convince the latter to hasten the issuing of a decision to partially drop the charges and to impose a penalty in the form of a fine. The lawyer asked and received €45,000 and was caught in the act of taking the money.
The prosecutors also documented another act of influence peddling committed by the accused earlier. This asked €50,000 from a client and received a part of the money.
The two cases were merged and remitted to court for examination. The accused is under arrest.
