Weather forecasters warn that an exceptional fire danger of the fifth level will persist in the period between May 31 and June 7. The yellow warning covers wooded strips and crop fields, IPN reports.
The State Weather Service said the warning is issued in connection with the shortage of precipitation. Temperatures varying between +25 and + 3 degrees Celsius are expected the next few days.
Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Liliana Pușcașu called on the population not to use fire in forests, parks and wooded areas as any source of fire that gets out of control can cause large-scale fires when the level of humidity is low. In case of fire, one should immediately call the 112 Service so that the firefighting teams could extinguish the fires at initial stages.
Since the start of the year, the firefighters conducted over 3,600 operations to put out fires. The fire destroyed over 24,000 hectares of vegetation.
