The Government decided to allocate about 20 million lei for compensating the victims of political repression for the goods that can no longer be recovered. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca reminded that on July 6 it is 64 years of the greatest deportation wave and invited the ministers to lay flowers at the foundation stone of the monument, placed in the square of the Railway Terminal, on Saturday morning, IPN reports.
On July 6, 1949, almost 12,000 families were deported from Bessarabia. Some of them were declared ‘kulaks’, while others were accused of cooperating with the fascists, of being members of bourgeois Romanian parties or of illegal religious denominations.
