The Government consented to the ratification of the lending agreement with the EBRD and the financing contract with the EIB for implementing a water supply project in the North Development Region of Moldova. Both of the documents were signed at the end of this June. The two banks will lend Moldova by €10 million, IPN reports.
The project will center on the rehabilitation of the Soroca-Balti aqueduct that supplies water to seven towns and a number of villages. The seven towns will form an association for developing drinking water supply services. This way, about 400,000 people will have access to safe drinking water sources.
The EBRD will disburse the money in two tranches of €4 million and €6 million, while the EIB will provide ten equal tranches of €1 million each.
In the same meeting, the Government approved the bill on waste and amendments to the regulations concerning the discharge of wastewater into water sources as a well as a new project that envisions the maintenance and extension of the aqueduct supplying water to the settlements of Soroca, Floresti, Drochia, Rascani, Sangerei and Telenesti districts and to Balti municipality.
