The results of the Governor elections in Gagauzia represent a consequence of the Russian propaganda and of the inactivity of the Moldovan Government. Such statements were made in the program “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

The director of the ITAR-TASS Office in Moldova Valerii Demidetskii considers that namely Chisinau is to blame for such an election outcome. “The Moldovan politicians secured Irina Vlah’s victory in elections. The people lost confidence in the current politicians and even hate them so that everyone who will harshly criticize those who are in power has real chances of winning the elections,” stated the journalist.

Corneliu Ciurea, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, believes that Irina Vlah’s victory was ensured first of all by Moscow. “Vlah was supported by Moscow and will thus promote Moscow’s polices. She also has a powerful supporter in Chisinau - Igor Dodon. This duo will have a say in the future local elections too,” he said.

Oazu Nantoi, program director at the Institute of Public Policy, also considers that the powerful influence of the Kremlin in the region ensured Irina Vlah’s victory. “There was no election campaign in Gagauzia. Irina Vlah will promote the message that all the problems will be solved by showing love to Russia. It is important that Vlah will attend the meetings of the Cabinet, where she will express her viewpoint. But I’m afraid that this will happen up to a certain moment,” he stated.

The Bashkan of Gagauzia was elected by the first round of voting on March 22. According to the preliminary data of the Comrat Election Commission, Irina Vlah polled 32,543 votes of 51.01% of the ballot. She ran as an independent, but in the election campaign was openly supported by the Party of Socialists.
