People affected by expropriation will be exempted from paying taxes on the amounts received as compensation for the assets expropriated for public utility reasons, under a law adopted by Parliament Friday.

The bill was introduced by the Government with the purpose of excluding some regulatory loopholes that may present risks for the expropriation procedure.

The law also regulates aspects related to the withdrawal from the agricultural or forestry circuit of the lands affected by the works of national interest. In particular, the withdrawal can be definitive in the case of lands permanently affected by works of national interest, or temporarily, in the case of lands affected during works of national interest. In either case, the withdrawal from the agricultural or forestry circuit of the lands affected by the works of national interest will be carried out without compensating the losses.
