The extension of the categories of people who can practice advocacy is not justified and the bill by which the MPs intend to become lawyers without taking the mandatory exam will affect the guild, Ion Dron, chairman of the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring, stated in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.

Ion Dron considers the lawmakers should also consider allowing the former prosecutors and judges to start to work as lawyers without taking the exam “There are unofficial statistics showing that most of the lawyers arrested for acts of corruption are former judges, prosecutors or police officers. The judges removed from the system for professional incompetence automatically get a license of lawyer. Even if the Union of Lawyers opposes, these go to court and are rehabilitated by ex-colleagues,” stated the lawyer.

He said an age limit should be imposed on practicing particular activities in the legal system so as to avoid employing incompetent persons.

Ion Dron also said that there is an “inflation of staff” in the bar in Moldova. “There are over 3,000 lawyers and many of these do not have work. When the people use the Internet to make a diagnosis themselves because they do not have money for doctors, they will not have money for lawyers as well. I know many cases when lawyers renounced the license and went abroad to work illegally there,” said the head of the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring.
