The Family Festival is expected to be full of music and surprises and will promote the fundamental family values, say organizers. The festival was opened today and will continue until May 17, Info-Prim Neo reports. The major activities of the event will take place on Sunday, May 17. Concerts will be held in three towns - Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. There will be awarded certificates of honor and presents to the families that will win the contests “Family Album”, “Family Film” and “Family Song”, couples that will get married on May 15, children born on this day and families that celebrate their golden weddings this year. The festival will include the hour of children, the hour of grandparents, the family dinner as well as the Family Cinema and Musical Duos. “The protection of family and improvement of its role in the society are at the basis of the social protection policies pursued by the Government. The slogan of the festival “Values Create Family – Family Creates Values!” represents the essence of this idea,” the outgoing Deputy Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Viorica Dumbraveanu told a news conference on May 15. “In the United Nations family, we promote such values as increased care and attention for mothers, empowerment of the women not only as persons that look after children, but also as supporters of the family, intolerance to family violence, especially violence towards women, promotion of education for all and of gender equality,” Kaarina Immonen, Resident Coordinator of the UN in Moldova, said in her congratulation speech. “I accepted with great pleasure the invitation to take part in the festival as I think that the family is indeed the pillar of the society and anyone, regardless of the social position, wants to have a healthy family,” said singer Geta Burlacu. “I’m glad that a part of my family will be with me on stage as I will sing songs together with my children,” she added. The festival was organized at a cost of 15,000 euros. It is held under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Echinox and Sense Music agencies.
