The Farmers’ Force Association will go to the meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean scheduled on August 20, on condition that President Maia Sandu and Speaker Igor Grosu also attend. Members of the special parliamentary commission are expected as well.

The Farmers’ Force declared that “farmers’ trust in the current Government is at a minimum due to inaction”, accusing it of trying to publicly downplay the ongoing crisis in agriculture.

Alexandru Bădărău, the association’s executive director, laid out in an open letter a set of measures to remedy the critical situation. The government is urged, among other things, to declare a state of emergency in agriculture and create a National Platform for Agriculture that involves all stakeholders.

In reaction to a public letter from the farmers, where they complained being “on the verge of bankruptcy”, Prime Minister Dorin Recean declared that the Government is aware of the problems in the sector and is doing “everything possible” to support the farmers. He announced that he will meet with the farmers on Tuesday.
