The farmers unions and associations announced that they will mount a nationwide protest on March 27. These are dissatisfied with the fact that the subsidization fund is lower than they ask and the authorities even intend to restore the VAT of 20% on agricultural products this year, IPN reports.
The head of the National Farmers Federation of Moldova Valeriu Cosarciuc told a news conference that the farmers feel betrayed because the authorities found money to fill gaps caused by the thefts committed at national banks, but do not have money to help the farmers.
UniAgroProtect chairman Alexandru Slusari said the farmers are in a worse situation than last year, when they were unable to export their products. This year, there is a risk that the land will not be even cultivated as the farmers do not have money.
The March 27 protest forms part of a series of demonstrations. The farmers demand increasing the subsidization fund to 1.2 billion lei, maintaining the VAT of 8% in agriculture, unblocking the process of lending to farmers and reducing the interest rates on loans, demonopolizing the oil market and decreasing the interest rate on the loans provided from Poland’s €100 million loan to 1%.
