The feasibility study for building the Ungheni-Chisinau duct of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline will be ready in autumn, Deputy Minister of Economy Tudor Copaci, who coordinates the energy policies at the Ministry, said in a program on Radio Moldova.

“At the end of June – the start of July, the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline will be completed. Having the feasibility study for the second part of this project, the next Government already will sign a lending agreement with the EBRD and EIB, which expressed their readiness to finance the building of this duct. The European Commission promised to offer Moldova €10 million in budget support for implementing the project,” said the deputy minister, quoted by IPN.

The works to build the Ungheni-Chisinau duct will cost an estimated €70 million. For Moldova to have an alternative in supplying natural gas, Romania is to also make investments. A compressor station needs to be constricted in Iasi or Onesti. The existing gas infrastructure must be strengthened so as to ensure the supply of gas to Moldova. The cost of works for both of the states will amount to €210 million.

The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline will have a capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters a year if it is extended up to Chisinau.
