Female police officer arrested for passive corruption

National Anticorruption Center officers arrested a senior police inspector responsible for person search of the Rascani Police Inspectorate on suspicion of passive corruption, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center.

According to the denouncer, the female police officer asked for US$200 from him for removing him from the database of wanted persons and issuing him with a confirmative document enabling him to freely cross Moldova’s border. The arrest was made immediately after the money was transmitted.

The police officer was put under arrest for 72 hours. She faces five to ten years in prison and a fine of 20,000 to 60,000 lei. She will also be banned from holding particular posts or carrying out particular activities for a period of two to five years.

In the first half of this year, the National Anticorruption Center investigated 27 cases of corruption involving employees of the internal affairs bodies.
