The Chisinau City Hall made public the program of festivities dedicated to the national holidays Independence Day and Our Language Day, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Chisinau administration’s website.
On Thursday morning, on the Independence Day, the local authorities will lay flowers to the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy.
Exhibitions of books, paintings, graphic works and handicrafts will be set up in the Square of the God’s Birth Cathedral and in the central park. Different cultural, artistic and sports programs organized by the Ministry of Education and Youth will start in Chisinau at 10.00.
A concert involving children, folk and pop singers organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be given in the Great National Assembly Square in the evening.
The activities dedicated to the Our Language Day marked on August 31 will start on Friday, August 29. On this day, a symposium themed “The Romanian Language in Moldova. Right to Normality” will be held at the Romanian Language House "Nichita Stanescu” starting at 14.00.
On August 31 in the morning, flowers will be laid to the monument to Stephan the Great. There will be delivered speeches and held music and poetry recitals on the Classic Writers’ Alley in the central public garden.
On the same day, free Wi-Fi Internet access services will be launched in four public places: the Square of the God’s Birth Cathedral, the area near the monument “In Memory to the Motherland’s Sons” in Rascani district, the alley on Mircea cel Batran Blvd. in Ciocana district and the park “Valea Trandafirilor” in Botanica district.
A religious ceremony in memory of the forerunners will be held at the Central Cemetery. There will be opened the International Book Fair 2009 dedicated to poet Grigore Vieru. Cultural and artistic programs organized by the Buiucani district head’s office will take place in the central park from 12.00 to 17.00.
The Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova in cooperation with the Bacau Culture Inspectorate will open the traditional exhibition-contest of plastic arts “Moldova’s Salons” at the Exhibitions Center “Constantin Brancusi”.
A concert by folk and pop singers dedicated to the Our Language Day will start in the Great National Assembly Square at 17.00. Among the special guests will be Anastasia Lazariuc and the bands Studio-One and Akcent from Romania.
