The authorities set up 15 surveillance cameras to monitor traffic intensity in different areas. They are all connected through special software. The cameras will monitor all the units of transport, including bicycles and motorcycles, and will determine their trajectory in real time, IPN reports.

The State Road Administration said the software was designed in the Czech Republic. The equipment was brought also from this country. The recorded data are stored in a special program that daily generates statistical reports.

Alongside the cameras, there will be installed15 meteorological stations that will transmit information about the road sections covered with glade forest or snow and will localize the problematic areas.

“This software will enable us to justify the investments we made in road infrastructure. This means that in areas with high intensity, we will implement more sophisticated or more expensive solutions as traffic on those road sections is heavier. Also, owing to the meteorological stations we intend to set up, we will save antiskid material that is spread on the roadway,” said the director of the State Road Administration Sergiu Bejan, who is quoted in a press release.

A sum of 1.8 million lei was allocated from the Road Fund for purchasing the equipment.
