A commemorative monument entitled “Stone of Peace” was unveiled in the square of the State University of Moldova in memory of victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It happened as part of the fifth Japanese Culture Festival “Bunkasai – Spirit of Japan” on June 2, IPN reports.
In the festival opening ceremony, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said the unveiling of this monument is a confirmation of the fact that any tragedy can and should be overcome and the Japanese model deserves to be followed. In a rather short period of time, the festival became a bridge between Japan and the Republic of Moldova.
“Culture is the liaison that unites nations and contributes to strengthening solidarity and understanding between people. The Japanese culture is specially captivating namely because it is different from ours, but is as beautiful and vast as ours. In this regard, “Bunkasai” offers everyone the possibility of knowing Japan in all its splendor,” stated Monica Babuc.
Within the Japanese Culture Festival on June 2 and 3, the visitors can take Japanese language lessons, can familiarize themselves with the Japanese cuisine, the tea ceremony, Japanese calligraphy and can see traditional Japanese dances, music, martial arts, origami, anime and others.
The Festival “Bunkasai – Spirit of Japan” is organized by the Foundation for Moldovan-Japanese Relations in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in Moldova and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of Moldova.
