The chairman of the public association “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici, who is the appointed ambassador of the International Organization for Economic Development in Moldova, considers the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, which mounts protests in the central square of Chisinau, does not represent civil society, but promotes the interests of a small group of people who finance them. Ghelici said protesters’ leaders didn’t allow the association’s representatives to speak to the crowd from the rostrum and state the position of the member of “Moldova Mea” on the situation in the country.

In a news conference at IPN on September 21, Fiodor Ghelici said that on September 12 he and a number of colleagues of his from the association went to the platform set up in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, where the Platform’s leaders were, to hand them over a request, asking allowing them to speak during the September 13 protest. One of the Platform’s leaders Andrei Nastase refused to accept the request, while another Platform member told them that the application should have been written in the official language, not in Russian, and submitted to the Platform’s office. Ghelici said he was intimidated by a member of the Platform dressed in a military uniform.

“This is the true face of those who today pretend to be representing the interests of society and make calls for dignity and truth. I reiterate: there is no truth and no dignity there. This protest reminds of the People’s Front of the start of the 1990s, which also divided society. You should thus tell the people that the Platform represents not all the people of Moldova, but only a particular group of people who pursue only one political goal,” stated Fiodor Ghelici, noting that the Platform divided society according to different criteria.

The activist also said that the members of “Moldova Mea” identified three key problems that they wanted to present in the square. These are: the election of the head of state by direct vote; setting of the minimum pension for those with seniority of 30 years not lower than the minimum subsistence level, and elimination of any type of immunity, either for judges or for MPs and President. “We are against early elections. They should have taken measures when the elections were held, not now as the train left,” he stated.

The activist considers that the Platform “Dignity and Truth” and some of the media outlets convinced society that Vladimir Plahotniuc is the only suitable candidate for the post of President of Moldova. This happens even if this politician is continuously presented in a negative light on TV and from the rostrum in the central square of Chisinau.
