The head of the public association “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici, ambassador of the International Economic Development Organization, said that he daily receives complaints from ordinary people who suffer from the illegal acts of the police. In a news conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici said that Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean is not a professional.

According to the chairman of “Moldova Mea”, the people complain about the use of torture by the police and the threats that they make to force the suspects confess things that they didn’t do. At customs posts, the police arrest persons who look more docile and ask money from them for not facing invented accusations.

Fiodor Ghelici said that recently, a group of Liberal-Democratic MPs initiated an inspection at the Ministry of the Interior, but they were pressed to give up. He sent them a letter, asking that they finish what they started.

“I do not understand how we want to enter the EU with such problems. I thought that the situation cannot be worse than during the rule of the Communist leader Voronin, but I was wrong. It’s worse now. The people file complaints to us and we direct them to prosecutors and the Presidential Office. But we received no answer,” stated Fiodor Ghelici.

“Moldova Mea” deputy head Alexandr Iudin said that the police by its acts discredit the country’s administration, which should not count on the people’s votes in this autumn’s elections. “The people are dissatisfied. They do not report to the police because they are afraid of them. It is paradoxical, but, instead of being protected by the police, the people suffer because of their acts. The dissatisfaction is growing and can burst out,” he stated.

The representatives of “Moldova Mea” consider that the Ukraine scenario may repeat in Moldova if the authorities do not take measures to improve the state of affairs in the law enforcement bodies.
