The Chisinau markets are full of fir trees for sale. In the Central Market, the cheapest tree costs 70 lei, while the most expensive one 800 lei. Even if not everyone can afford them, the sellers say the firs are in demand, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The fir trees at the Central Market are brought mainly from Briceni and Telenesti districts. The shortest ones are 70 centimeters high, while the tallest ones are 6 meters high.
One of the traders said it is the first day that he came to the market with fir trees and sold five trees during several hours. The firs of up to a meter in height cost 70 lei, while those of approximately 3 meters – 180 lei. Last year, Tudor Cucu managed to sell about 400 firs and hopes to sell as many this year.
Ion Vasile sells trees taller than 2 meters. He said they are intended for kindergartens, schools, churches and other institutions. The cheapest tree costs 100 lei.
Some of the vendors expressed concern that they will not sell all the trees, even if the prices remained at the same level as last year. Liliana Doni said the people do not have money. They come, look at the firs and go away without buying.
Those who want to purchase an artificial fir tree will have to pay 20 lei to 2 000 lei for a fir that looks like a natural one.
Most of the passersby asked said they will buy a fir tree closer to Christmas or New Year. Some of them already decorated a fir at home.
