Three men were killed in fires blamed on lit cigarettes on Saturday and Sunday, press office of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Sergiu Barbu has told Info-Prim Neo.
A man aged 37 perished in a house fire in Ciolacu Vechi village of Falesti village on Saturday at 06.30.
On the same day at 11.00, villagers saw flames in a house in Rediul Mare village of Ocnita district. After extinguishing the fire, they found the body of the 66-year-old owner inside the house.
A man aged 44 was killed in a fire in Gornoe village of Straseni district on Sunday at about 20.30.
The alleged cause of the three fires is reckless smoking.
On November 1, frogmen of the Rescuers Department No. 1 took the body of an unidentified man in his 40s out of the Byk River. An investigation is under way.
As many as 1,888 fires have happened in Moldova this year. They caused the death of 127 persons, including four children.
