The first blood bank in Moldova was created at the Oncology Institute in Chisinau. It will supply the hospital with the necessary amounts of blood and will assess the necessity of transfusion at an early stage. “Such banks will appear in other institutions too,” said the director of the Oncology Institute Victor Cernat, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “This blood bank will help improve the condition of the patients who need blood components, especially of those who have hemorrhage.” “This blood bank is a good thing. It comes to help our people and ensure the security of the state,” said the new Deputy Minister of Health Octavian Grama. The blood bank is a joint project of the Ministry of Health, the National Blood Transfusion Center, the Oncology Institute and the U.S. organization Global Healing, which provided the equipment worth US$126,000. A part of the equipment was given to the Scientific Research Institute for Mother and Child Healthcare, the Cardiology Institute and the Cahul Blood Transfusion Center. At the suggestion of Global Healing, a number of specialists will be trained in the management of blood transfusion.
