A court in the northern region ruled, for the first time in Moldova, the chemical castration of a pedophile. The 50-year-old offender was sentenced to 19 years in jail for raping his partner’s 8-year-old daughter, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Prosecutor Mircea Rosioru told the press on December 24 that the girl was raped by her mother’s boyfriend a week after the law introducing chemical castration of pedophiles came into effect in July 2012.
The psychiatric expertise showed the man had discernment when he sexually abused the girl, although he suffers from amnesia and mental retardation. Previously, when he had mental problems, he was treated at the Psychiatric Hospital in 2003-2004.
The Prosecutor’s Office demanded a life sentence for the accused, but the court sentenced him to 19 years in jail and chemical castration. The sentence, ruled at the end of last week, can be appealed.
Two other sentences in cases of sexual perversion and rape were ruled recently in the districts of Nisporeni and Criuleni. A 47-year-old man from Criuleni was sentenced to 12 years in jail after he had sexually abused his 11-year-old daughter in the summer of 2006 while drunk. The crime became known only recently after the girl confessed to her teacher what happened 6 years ago. In October 2011, another girl was forced to get into a man’s car. He hit her a couple of times, then raped her. The 21-year-old was sentenced to 9 years in jail for rape and violent actions of sexual nature.
