The first colorectal cancer screening center was inaugurated at the polyclinic of the Oncology Institute in Chisinau, IPN reports. Such a center will allow the specialists to work in better and safer conditions and this will contribute to medical services of a higher quality.
Among the beneficiaries of the medical services provided at the center will be persons from all the social categories, especially those who have mandatory health policy.
The project was implemented by the Government of Moldova in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, which provided 33.4 million lei for the medical equipment. The National Health Insurance Company contributed 4 million lei for repair works, while the Oncologic Institute allocated about 1.5 million lei.
According to the Ministry of Health, colorectal cancer is the leading type of cancer in Moldova. About 1,000 news cases of such a type of cancer are discovered in Moldova annually.
