The Anticorruption center announced that the court sentenced the leader of the group responsible for the smuggling in Stefan-Voda, in April, to four years' imprisonment conditioned on two years' probation. The Buiucani Sector Court also ruled the seizure of goods valued at 1 million lei. The Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption didn’t offer details about the identity of the sentenced person. Angela Starischi, the center’s press officer, told Info-Prim Neo only that it was a 30 year old man. A group of persons suspected of smuggling consumer goods were arrested on April 12, this year. They are from different places – Chisinau, Calarasi, Palanca and Tudora. Among them, there is a former worker of the Ministry of the Interior and a border guard. Most of the suspects have criminal records, being previously tried for theft, forged documents, hooliganism, smuggling and corruption. According to the initial data of the investigation, they avoided the state border and smuggled the goods through the green border area in Palanca village. This section of the road is allowed only for inhabitants of Palanca and Tudora. The goods were brought from the “km 7” market in Odessa, Ukraine, and later sold in Chisinau. After a check at one of the suspects’ house in Tudora, a CCCEC officer received a head injury and was operated several times. The man who shot him, Victor Busuioc, told the press that masked CCCEC officers broke into his house, late in the evening, and attacked his son. He fired a shot in order to stop them, but didn’t intend to hurt anyone. He is under investigation.
