The first volume of the political encyclopedia “People of Moldova” was launched in Chisinau on August 25. The book covers all the political personalities, 1,115 in number, who held the posts of President, MP, Prime Minister or minister since the declaration of independence until August 2017. The book was compiled by journalist Igor Volnitski. In the launch, he said the next volume will be issued in two months and will include the party leaders of the period between 1991 and 2017, IPN reports.
Igor Volnitski said the book is a present for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the declaration of independence. Work on the book lasted for over a year. The author voiced hope that a useful thing was done for the country and the future generations because many of the protagonists of the volume are no longer alive and these should be remembered.
“A series of volumes will follow. We plan to issue the second volume this autumn. It will include the persons who held the post of party chairperson during the 26 years of independence. We have a lot of persons who held post in parties. Even if some of the parties were more active, while others less active, our duty is to mention all of them and to preserve the realities for the future generations,” said Igor Volnitski.
The first volume was printed under the patronage of the president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Gheorghe Duca. He said that such a book about the Moldovan politicians of the independence period was necessary. “It is an ingenious initiative concerning people who ruled and rule our country. There was created a database of political personalities of the Republic of Moldova so that the future generations know them,” he stated.
The book appeared with financial support from the Congress of Azerbaijanis in Moldova, the American University of Moldova and the University of European Political and Economic Studies “Constantin Stere”. It was issued in 1,000 copies and 1/3 of these were donated to the National Library for being distributed to all the libraries of Moldova.
