Five digits instead of four will be dialed to call a taxi from February 1. The change also applies to other local short phone numbers “14xx”, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under a decision by the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), the local short phone numbers “14xx” used to provide information services about transport, medical and other services will be replaced by numbers of the format “14xxx” that will be used for the same purpose. The Agency took such a decision in order to ensure access to short national numbers from all the geographical zones by removing the prefix “0”, as required by the National Numbering Plan. Currently, the local numbers “14xx” are used only within a geographical zone. To contact these numbers from other geographical zones, through fixed-line and mobile phone networks, one should use the prefix “0” and the code of the given zone. Until now, the ANRCETI allocated 54 new numbers of the format “14xxx” to providers of fixed-line services and networks, including taxi services. Those who want to find out the new telephone numbers of the taxi companies should visit the website of the ANRCETI.
