The mayor, two deputy mayors and two functionaries of the Cimislia mayor’s office are investigated in a case of corruption. The South Local Division of the National Anticorruption Center and anticorruption prosecutors on April 27 carried out searches in the offices and homes of the functionaries, IPN has learned from the NAC.
The functionaries are suspected of abusing their authority by fixing a tender contest to choose a contractor for asphalting a road section in the town. In reality, decision makers of the Cimislia mayor’s office signed a contract for asphalting works with the firm “Rutador” by preliminarily agreeing to legalize the transaction when the works are completed.
About 1 million lei was transferred to “Rutador” for asphalting works, but the mayor tried to convince local councilors to allocate an extra 200,000 lei even if the works were already finished.
The suspects are liable to up to ten years in jail. They will be banned from holding particular posts and from performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
