Five TV channels escaped punishment even if they violated the regulations concerning the covering of the election campaign prior to the parliamentary elections and were biased. The members of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) could not reach an agreement as to the type of penalty that should be imposed, IPN reports.
These channels are “Publika TV”, “Canal 3”, “Canal 2”, “Jurnal TV”, and “Accent TV”. BCC member Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca proposed that these should be banned from broadcasting publicity during 72 hours, while her collages Vitalie Tabunscic suggested imposing the highest fine of 5,400 lei on them. Both of the proposals were put to the vote, but none of them gained the necessary number of votes to be accepted.
The Council’s chairman Dinu Ciocan called upon the five broadcasters not to violate the regulations. “I want to remind you that we have a monitoring report to examine yet. I hope we will reach a consensus about it at least. I call on these broadcasters to be very attentive, especially during these last days that remained until the elections,” he stated.
