Specialists of the National Weather Service (SHS) will be able to monitor the variation of the Prut River’s hydrologic regime and to issue flood warnings in time, thanks to the latest technologies installed as part of a Moldovan-Czech project, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Ministry of Environment, latest generation sensors for hydrologic measurements and a server for collecting data from the sensors were installed as part of the project. Overall, 11 automatic hydrologic stations were installed in Lipcani, Sireuti, Costesti, Braniste, Ungheni, Leuseni, Leova, Cantemir, Cahul, Branza and Giurgiulesti, where the water level and temperature will be measured. The data from the hydrologic stations regarding the water level in the Prut will be available online, displayed on the interactive map on SHS’s website. In case of high-risk flood waves, the authorities will be notified about the high water level. The value of the project “Hydrologic monitoring of surface waters and protection against floods in the Prut River basin” is €800,000 and was implemented in 2010-2012 with the financial support of the Czech Government.
