The value of the food parcel provided to voluntary blood donors will rise from 50.9 lei to 100 lei, IPN reports, with reference to a Government decision.

The new food ration that was agreed by an expert working group will include a liter of sugar-free juice and canned meat, fish and vegetables. The donors will also receive about 100 grams of chocolate, 400 grams of halva or 250 grams of dry fruit.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, 80,000 donations a year are required for collecting the necessary volume of blood products. This is 6,600-6,800 donations a month.

Unofficial reports show the voluntary blood donors represented 81% of the total number of blood donors in 2016. Specialists consider voluntary blood donation is preferable to paid one, which involves a higher risk of diseases detection in the donated blood.
