Executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT Igor Botan considers the candidates for mayor of Chisinau have equal chances in the runoffs, while political analyst Corneliu Ciurea believes the Socialist candidate Ion Ceban has more chances than the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase. The two made forecasts in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
As to the fact that all polls before the first round of the mayoral elections showed Andrei Nastase will not reach the runoffs, Igor Botan said the behavior of voters cannot be anticipated exactly. “I repeatedly said that the number of undecided voters should be taken into account, ” stated the expert, noting that 30% of the voters decide who to vote for when they have the ballot in their hands.
Igor Botan said Ion Ceban has experience and employs the details for his benefit. Instead, Andrei Nastase showed he can learn very quickly and he should have exploited this ability.
For his part, Corneliu Ciurea said the election campaign before the runoffs was much more active. The Party of Socialists’ candidate played offensively against his opponent. In the debates, Andrei Nastase often replied to the attacks and tried to justify himself instead of attacking.
The voters in Chisinau are expected to cast their ballots in the mayoral runoffs on June 3.
