Foreign Ministry condemns Vladimir Voronin’s statements

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration describes the accusations made by the leader of the Communist Party as groundless. In a news conference on Tuesday, Vladimir Voronin said that the national security strategy worked out by the Ministry provides for the possibility of resolving the Transnistrian despite by the use of weapons, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communiqué, the Ministry reiterates that the Moldovan authorities are resolve in their decision to settle the Transnistrian conflict by political and diplomatic methods.
The Ministry’s administration says the draft national security strategy was made public last May and was published on the websites of a number of state institutions. Later the same month, there were held public debates on the strategy, which involved representatives of civil society.
The Ministry stresses that the draft strategy was approved by the Government and submitted to Parliament for examination on June 25, 2010. In accordance with the legal procedures, the document was distributed to all the MPs and discussed within the commission on national security, defense and public order, which was headed by a Communist lawmaker in the previous legislature.
According to the Ministry’s administration, the statements made by the Communist leader can prejudice the national interests and leave room for speculation for those who do not want the country to be reunified peacefully.
Vladimir Voronin told a news conference that the national security strategy drafted by the Foreign Ministry clearly shows that the current regime does not rule out the possibility of solving the Transnistrian dispute by military methods. Moreover, he said that the authorities in the near future intend to reorganize a number of facilities so that they could be used as military bases by other states, in breach of the Constitution.
