The new rules for crossing the Ukrainian border do not apply to people that live in areas bordering the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, to children younger than 16 who travel together with their parents and to persons that have tourist vouchers and round-trip tickets with a fixed date, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry says in a communiqué, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Ukrainian border guards will selectively check if the foreigners that cross the border have the financial resources needed to stay in Ukraine. The decision made by the Ukrainian Cabinet will come into force on August 25. There will be inspected citizens of Moldova, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and of other countries from Africa and Asia. The travelers will have to confirm that they have12,600 Ukrainian Hrivnas or the equivalent in convertible currency that is needed to cover the costs of staying in Ukraine for 1 to 30 days, regardless of the period of stay. The travelers must own cash or have a bank card and show the excerpt from the account for the last three days. If the Moldovans encounter difficulties in crossing the border with Ukraine, they can contact the following subdivisions of the Foreign Ministry: the Consular Affairs Department, tel: 20 10 48, e-mail: consdep@mfa.md; the Embassy of Moldova in Kiev, tel: +38044 521 22 78; +38044 521 22 79; e-mail: kiev@mfa.md; the Consulate of Moldova in Odessa, tel: +38048 78 56 715, e-mail: odesa@mfa.md.
